$170 06 Art & Lutherie Cedar (Canada) 6 - String Acoustic Guitar

Art & Lutherie "Cedar" Vintage Burst Finish - Acoustic 6 String Guitar. This 2006 Model is made by Godin in Quebec, Canada with 95% Canadan woods. Solid Cedar Top, Wild Cherry Back and Sides, Silverleaf Maple Neck, Rosewood Bridge and Graphtech "TUSQ" Nut and Saddle. The A&L Guitars are made in the same facility as the Seagull Guitar Line that most large retailers feature. This Model is identical to the Seagull Entourage Rustic but has a more traditional looking "square" headstock instead of the "pointed" Seagull headstock. Both have a street price of $348 new. Both guitars are known for playing like guitars costing thousands more at a fraction of the price. This 1 is in Raleigh - not some warehouse and after 6 years it has opened up and sounds better than a new one.
Cedar is much warmer than spruce as a top tonewood, with more depth and in the low and mids, instead of the brightness of spruce. This guitar has no cracks or structural issues and has been kept in a home with HVAC humidity controll. The tuners keep it in tune, and the action is 3/32" low E to top of 12th fret - low and easy to play. The neck is straight and there is no buzz or fret wear. I am a fingerpicker and this guitar is easy all the way up the neck. There are a few bumps and some pick marks - nothing through the finish. Cedar is much softer than spruce, and Godin does not cover their guitars with heavy shining coats of tone dampening polyurethane. The guitar is very nice looking and is a player, not a fragile showpiece.
In Nick Freeth's "Illustrated Directory of Guitars" (2011) - a coffee table collectors guide of over 260 noteworthy guitars, earliest to latest thing out there, he makes the following statement about the A & L Cedar
